Great news! I couldn’t wait to work on the photos from Denise and Roy’s wedding, so today I managed to finish their photo presentation ahead of my promised delivery date of Monday.

Their chosen location of Fiji for their wedding produced some stunning location shots, just click on the link below to see it!

Denise and Roy’s Wedding – First Pics

September 29th, 2006 by paul

If you read my previous post, you’d know the main reason we were in Fiji last week was to attend Denise and Roy’s wedding. They chose to hold their ceremony at what must be the most beautiful little white chapel in the world. It sits just by the sea and is surrounded by coconut trees. It just screams “fairytale wedding”.

To Denise and Roy’s credit the day ran so smoothly from the getting-readies to the intimate reception later that night. They managed to handle all that, have a glorious day and look spectacular all at the same time. Well done guys!

Below I’ve posted a few photos of the day as just a sample of how great the day was. I’ll have a photo presentation available this coming Monday, so come back then to check it out!

Elaine and I have to so sincerely thank Denise and Roy for inviting us to be there on their special day in Fiji. It was an absolute blast!

Come back Monday to see more!

Bula! I’m back in Melbourne

September 29th, 2006 by paul

Half a day – that’s exactly how much sunshine we had during five days in wondrous tropical Fiji. But despite the lack of rays, Elaine and I had a great time at the Naviti Resort on Fiji’s Coral Coast.

After a four hour plane ride and a two hour bus trip, we arrived at the resort at about 9am only to find that we couldn’t be checked in until 2pm. But, after killing five hours wondering around the resort, we mysteriously got upgraded to an ocean view room. Bonus.

Naviti

The weather really sucked the first day with severely overcast conditions with intermittent rain. But in between I did manage to use the moody weather to capture a pretty nice shot of Elaine below. She’s squatting on a pylon that forms a breakwater near the resort if you’re interested (you’re probably not).

Elaine on pylon

Sunday we caught a shuttle over to the Naviti’s sister hotel, the Warwick. Because of an arrangement between the hotels we were allowed to use all the Warwick’s facilities, which is pretty cool because it’s rated a whole star higher than the Naviti. They’ve got some really cool stuff there like a bar that’s situated out in the sea, only connected by a small bridge. But rather than just sit there and drink, Elaine and I decided to have a dip in their hot tub… little did we know (until we actually jumped in) that the hot tub wasn’t that hot, in fact it was quite cold. Nevertheless we still sat there freezing and convincing ourselves that it was getting warmer for about half an hour before heading back to the Naviti to rest up for the next day.

Drummers

Monday was Denise’s wedding at the Fijian, so we booked a bus to pick us up at 10:10am. By 10:30am, and without sign of the bus, Elaine and I started to panic. By 10:45 it was getting desperate and I was ringing the bus company. Five minutes, five minutes was what they kept saying. Now here’s the thing, when they say five minutes they mean five Fiji minutes which equates to about 15 minutes in the real world. Anyway, to cut a long and stressful story short, the bus company finally sent us a private driver who was apparently (and thankfully) familiar with the phrase “zoom zoom”. Then… finally… we had the only half day of postcard perfect Fijian sunshine just in time for Denise and Roy’s wedding. The wedding was absolutely wonderful. Check back for another post covering that great event.

Fijian

Tuesday we went to Suva, the capital. It was a funny little town with little pieces of Australia to remind us that we weren’t that far from home, like Westpac and ANZ banks, and a plethora of shops selling Billabong and Rip Curl apparel. All up we had about five hours in Suva, which was just about enough time to cover every little nook and cranny of that curious town. Later that night back at the Naviti we were treated to a traditional Meke by the locals, unfortunately only one of the very few opportunities we had to view the local culture.

Meke

Wednesday was our last day in Fiji, and despite our most desperate prayers we could only get intermittent sunshine interwoven with occasional light showers. But we did get to spend some time in the Naviti hot tubs (which were only marginally warmer than the Warwick’s) and have a go on the paddleboats, which was a fun but tiring experience. That pretty much covers the trip. It was short (or at least felt that way), but was definitely most enjoyable, almost like a second honeymoon. I’m pretty sure Elaine and I will end up back there again one day in search of that elusive Fijian sun.

Thanks… and see ya!

September 22nd, 2006 by paul

I’m flying to Fiji in less than 8 hours, wow.

Anyway, I just wanted to give a quick thanks to everyone who has visited the THIA photography website over the past couple of days. The count of unique visitors has gone absolutely ballistic in the last 48 hours (you can see it at the bottom of the THIA Photography website here). It only counts each person once regardless of how many times they visit, so the number may seem a little deflated at first, until you realise that over 300 individuals have seen the site in less than a week – and it’s not even finished!.

I hope you like the website and the “work in progress” album that is now up for viewing *click here to see the 1st draft of the album pre-design*. You’ve all been really supportive with your comments, which serve to remind Elaine and me what great friends we have (awww… yes, that was a touch syrupy).

See you all in a few days time with a bunch of new tropical wedding photos!

Album preview

September 19th, 2006 by paul

Apologies about being such a lazy bugger over the past couple of weeks… hang on, I mean lazy blogger. Dammit…

Actually, I’ve had my head down and arse up working on Mel and An’s pre-designed wedding album so it’ll be ready for when they return from honeymoon next week. I think it’s so cool that my couples can view a draft version of their album so soon. I would have loved for my wedding photographer to do that!

There are so many great images of the day that I ended up maxing out the draft album at 80 sides. Below are just a few samples I thought I’d share with all you keen readers of my weblog out there. The complete album will be ready on Thursday for proofing. Check back then!

Sample 6

Don’t forget the final book will be 10″x10″ in size when closed, therefore the above images that depict open spreads will be 20″x10″ in size. Crazy huge!

I’m leaving for Fiji this weekend to shoot Denise & Roy’s wedding, and may have limited access to the Internet during this time. So if I don’t get back to your e-mails straight away I apologise in advance. I should still be reachable on my 0428 888 669 mobile however.
