Beechworth

After the weekend’s activities, the wine collection has grown… yet again.

The first stop was Glenrowan. The giant statue of Ned Kelly erased any lingering doubt that we were indeed in Kelly Country.

My brother bought me a sampler six-pack from the Beechworth Brewery for my birthday, so we had to visit it.

My handicap

July 16th, 2007 by paul

I’ve been playing golf for the past 13 years or so. I started much like everyone else with a handicap in the mid-20’s. With the benefits of youth, I moved quickly down to single figures by the time I was 16 years old. I dipped down to a personal best of 7 when I was about 19. However since then it’s been… well… “bleh”

Handicap

The above graph is my handicap over the last two years. For those wondering, I’m not obsessively anal in recording my scores; the raw data was gathered from GOLF Link.

I did graph it however.

It shows that two years ago I was off 10, and besides a few soul-wrenching games at 12 (11.5 is rounded up to 12), here I am again today… off 10.

Hrm… not quite sure why I thought anyone other than me would find that interesting.

Three random photos – Three random thoughts

July 12th, 2007 by paul

Random
Saturday before last, we played paintball for Raf’s bucks party.
My own team-mate shot me in the forearm (accidentally I hope).
This is how it still looks today.

Random
I baked cupcakes tonight.
The instructions said to set the temperature to 175 degrees,
and leave them in the oven for 20 minutes.
I felt particularly daring, so I left them in for 30.

NZ: day six

July 11th, 2007 by paul

The photos from NZ just keep coming…

NZ
Crazy dawn colours in the sky.

NZ
Yes there are sheep in NZ. Plenty and plenty of sheep.

NZ
Speight’s Ale House in Dunedin serve up some amazingly good value food. For about NZ$12 you can get a serving of two baby sheep lamb shanks with vegetables.

NZ
The Otago Settlers Museum had this creepy room with old portraits of past residents.

NZ
Dunedin Railway Station.

NZ
First Church of Otago.

NZ
The base of Baldwin Street – the steepest street in the world.

NZ
At its steepest, the gradient is 1 in 2.86. That means for every 2.86 metres forward the road rises a whole metre.

NZ
A number of vehicles make the climb (and subsequent crazy descent) for fun. This guy decided he’d take the company van for a bit of a spin.

NZ
Larnach Castle, built in 1871, is New Zealand’s only castle.

NZ
The backyard has decent views.

NZ
How to take a self portrait when no one else is around.

NZ
We took the van on a bit of an off-road adventure in the hopes of some great dusk shots.

NZ
A dusk shot.

NZ
Dunedin at dusk.

Facebook bandwagon

July 11th, 2007 by paul

After taking a running jump onto the bandwagon that is blogging, my latest sheep-like step has been to add myself to the growing legion of Facebook users.

For those not in the know (which included me until this week), Facebook is a community website that allows you to keep up to date on what your friends are up to, and connect with friends you haven’t seen in ages.

It’s an interesting initiation as you begin by completing your personal profile which forms the basis for your Facebook experience. You can choose to add as much (or little) about yourself as you wish. Then comes the fun. The next step is to find all your friends who are on Facebook, which in turn gives you access to their profiles. The real benefit is that Facebook will constantly update you on new happenings in your social circle. That may come in the form of status updates, photos, comments and a range of other interesting (and less interesting) pieces of information.

Facebook

If you’re not on Facebook yet, click here to sign up. It’s one of the least painful signup procedures I have yet to come across.

If you’re already on Facebook look me up!
